Robert Louis Ruffra, 77, of Ormond Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully in his Louisville home surrounded by family on Monday, September 29, 2025.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Bob graduated from Southern High School in 1966. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and later enjoyed a long career with L&N/CSX Railroad before retiring. Bob was a longtime member and owner of the L&N Golf Club, later known as The Crossings, where he shared his passion for golf with many. An avid fisherman and golfer, he found joy in the outdoors and camaraderie on the course and the water. He was a proud member of several veteran and fraternal organizations, including American Legion Post 120 in Holly Hill, FL; AMVETS Post 61 in Louisville, KY; and the Moose Lodge in Jeffersontown, KY.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Amy Ruffra; and sisters Patricia McDermott and Donna Ruffra.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sherry Dian Ruffra; his children, Robert L. Ruffra Jr. and Rozalind L. Phillips (Butch); and grandchildren Rachel Kestenbaum (Allan), Mia Ruffra, and Fen and Zachary Phillips.
He is also survived by his brother Michael Ruffra (Corrine); sister Marcia Alvarez (Joe); nieces and nephews Kristi Metcalf (Michael), Michael and Trish McDermott, Joe Alvarez (Briana), Rhonda Conaghan (Robert), and Jacob Ruffra (Teresa); as well as several great-nieces and nephews.
Bob chose cremation, and in accordance with his wishes, no services will be held.
In honor of his memory, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause close to his heart.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
