Robert Norman "Bob" Phillips, age 83 of Louisville, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2016. Bob was born on July 21st, 1933 to the late Herbert & Blanche Darst Philips of Louisville Kentucky. He proudly served in the US Army in the early 1960s. He held numerous jobs, including a lab assistant for the University of Louisville. And as a bartender he met Dee, who would be his wife for the last 43 years of his life. He was also preceded in death by 3 daughters, Brenda, Norma (Sissy), Laura; and a grandson, Nick.
Bob Phillips knew tragedy. His youngest daughter, Laura, died from viral Meningitis just weeks after he had relocated to Macon Georgia with his wife, Dee. Then, within a few months he suffered debilating strokes that robbed him of most of the use of his right side. This happened 35 years ago. He was a do-it-yourselfer to the core, and enjoyed envisioning and building solutions to problems no one else saw. Sometimes directing others to exacting and painful detail. He had a biting sense of humor, and a lightning quick wit, coupled with an evil, disarming grin when he was about to 'get ya.'
After 15 years in Georgia, Bob and Dee moved back to Louisville. Bob still went to his computer every morning and worked on one project or another. Eventually, his health failed a little further, and his world shrank again. Wheelchair bound for the last several years he'd moved his computer room back upstairs again. And still occasionally got online and checked out what was going on outside of marathons of Law and Order and In The Heat of the Night.
Bob is survived by a daughter (Pam), step-daughter (Bonnie) and 2 sons (Robert and David), 6 grandchildren (Sam, Rachel, TJ, Jim, Lee and Doug) and a special angel, Tori Churchill.
A celebration of Bob's life will be 4pm Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive in Middletown, with visitation there from 3-4pm.
