Robert Bruce McAlpin was born on June 15, 1943, in New York City, New York and departed this life on August 15, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center, where he had received care in his final days.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Robert dedicated four years of his life to serving his country, with assignments in Japan and a brief stint in Vietnam. His military service shaped him into the steadfast individual he became, embodying the values of honor and commitment.
Robert's passions extended far beyond his military service. He was an avid Ham Radio operator throughout most of his life, known to many by his call sign, W4JSB. This hobby allowed him to connect with countless individuals around the world, a fitting reflection of his communicative spirit. His interests also included electronics, genealogy, and music. As a harmonica player, Robert loved to share his musical gift with others, filling the air with his melodies.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Susan McAlpin and his son, Shawn McAlpin. Robert joins in eternal rest his beloved daughter, Dorothy McAlpin, who preceded him in death. In the hearts of his family, Robert's memory will endure, cherished and celebrated for the warmth, kindness, and inspiration he consistently imparted to those fortunate enough to know him. His life will be remembered as a tapestry woven with threads of love, service, and unwavering dedication to family and community.
