Robert Andrew Mattingly Sr., aged 88, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, June 5, 2026. Born on February 20, 1938, in Louisville to Joseph and Estella (Wild) Mattingly, Robert led a life filled with love for his family and the simple joys of life. Robet was a retiree Merchandise Manager for River City Distillery.
He cherished spending time at Nolin Lake with his loved ones and enjoyed the warmth of Florida’s beaches during the winters. Robert found great happiness playing with his dog, Chance, and took pride in attending his grandchildren’s ball games. Known for his skill and dedication, he was the go-to person for fixing things on the farm—a talent that his family fondly remembers.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Harry Mattingly and Estella Mae Mattingly, as well as his son, Mike Mattingly. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Elizabeth Louise Mattingly; sons Robert “Rob” A. Mattingly Jr. (Cindy) and Greg Mattingly (Lisa); daughter-in-law Mary Beth Mattingly; grandchildren Morgan (Nathan) Curry, Drew Mattingly, Matthew Mattingly, Leah (Ryan) Spaulding; great-grandchildren Joshua, Carrie, and Jeremiah Curry, along with Cole, Everly, and Lily Spaulding; sister Peggy (Wally) Rogers; and a loving extended family of nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions – Southwest Louisville Chapel, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the same location, with burial to take place at St. Andrew Cemetery.
In honor of Robert’s memory, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers all contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Mass of the Air. Messages and memories may be shared with the family through the guestbook.
Robert Andrew Mattingly Sr. will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who were privileged to know him. His legacy of love, dedication, and kindness will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
