Robert Joseph Kopp, known affectionately by those close to him as Bobby, graced the world with his presence on October 8, 1938, in Louisville, Kentucky. His life, rich with experiences and vibrant stories, came to its peaceful conclusion on January 11, 2026, surrounded by his devoted family in Corydon, Indiana.

Bobby's journey began after graduating from New Albany High School, where he displayed an early affinity for numbers and a love for the thrill of competition. He pursued his education further at IUS, yet it was in the realm of sports and gambling where he found his true calling. Starting as a caddy at the local golf course, his passion for sports flourished, morphing into a successful career as a bookie. Bobby didn't merely dabble in gambling; he became a significant figure in the expansive world of casinos, opening numerous bookie joints across southern Indiana, before bringing his expertise to the sun-soaked lands of Orlando, Florida.

Traveling across the United States, he dealt cards with skill and aplomb, skillfully navigating the intricacies of luck and chance. He was legendary in the underground betting community for his abilities and was often seen cruising past in luxury cars, a proud member of the Corvette club, embracing the speed and excitement of life. The 1960s offered Bobby both challenges and joy as he indulged his adventurous spirit in the thrilling world of local car racing.

Yet, amidst all these endeavors, it was his family that he adored above all. Their annual pilgrimage to Disney was not just a vacation; it was a symbol of the love and commitment he had to create cherished traditions. He resided on the 18th hole of a golf course in Orlando, a perfect sanctuary for someone who held the game of golf close to his heart. Weekly card games at his home fostered connections, laughter, and shared moments among family and friends, while his cherished dog, Cuddles, brought warmth and companionship for 16 unforgettable years. If you knew Bobby, you knew Cuddles—a loyal friend who always had a seat at the card table.

As a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force, Bobby not only served his country honorably but also carried with him a profound patriotism that was sewn into the very fabric of his being. He was straightforward yet simple, embodying intelligence in all his endeavors, striving continuously to ensure that his daughter, Christine Dowdle, and granddaughters, Nichole (Josh Abell) Dowdle and Madison Ferrell, had everything they needed to flourish and succeed. His proudest accomplishments were watching them grow—each milestone representing the strength of his love.

Bobby is survived by his beloved daughter, Christine, his granddaughters, Nichole and Madison, and his great-grandson, Xzavier Abell, whose achievements and joys Bobby celebrated with unwavering pride. He leaves behind an enduring legacy, framed with memories of laughter, adventure, love, and the simple pleasures of life.

He joins in eternal rest his mother, Minnie Fern Porter; father, Victor Kopp; stepfather, Joseph Porter; and son, Robert "Joey" Joseph Kopp, Jr. Bobby's presence will be deeply missed but his spirit will undoubtedly linger in the hearts of those fortunate to have shared in his journey—forever a part of the stories told and the lives he touched.

"Family" service and military honor at 12:00 on Jan. 21, 2026, with burial to follow at daisy hill cemetery in Borden Indiana.
