Robert William "Mountain Man" Combs, 86, of Elizabeth, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2021. Robert was a member of the Emmaus Road Church and a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army. He was a yellow jacket militia member and member of the Tomahawk Reenactment Group, a member of the American Legion in Elizabeth, Indiana, and a member of the American Rifle Association. Robert was a skilled gunsmith and knife maker and enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, and making fishing lures. After retirement, he enjoyed working as a carpenter renovating homes. Of all his pastimes, Robert's favorite was spending time with his family and making memories with them.
He was born on July 25, 1935, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Beatrice (Radcliffe) and Stanley A. Combs, Sr. Along with parents, Robert is preceded in death by his brother, Stanley Combs, Jr.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sandra Combs; children, Cheryl (Michael) Hinton, Teresa (Tim) Bolton, Kris (Theresa) Combs, Pamela (Thomas) Combs, and Dirk (Lisa) Combs; grandchildren, Amber (Jeff) Stinson, Kendra (Justin) Schmitt, Melanie (Channock) Banet, Brandi (Coy) Sampson, Blake (Niki) Belles, Dylan Combs, Sarah (Isaac) Simmons, Taylor (Jacob) Heckaman, and Tristan Belles; 20 great-grandchildren; siblings, Albert "Skeeter" (Janie) Combs and Joanne McKinley; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Cremation was chosen in regards to Robert's wishes. A Memorial Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Emmaus Road Church (515 Potters Lane, Clarksville, IN 47129). His Memorial Service will be at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday at the church.
