Robert Ray "Tom" Carroll, 73, of Palmyra, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016. Eleven years ago, Tom received the gift of life and was the recipient of a double lung transplant. Through this gift he was able to continue to enjoy the things that he loved, such as spending time with his family and working in the yard. Tom was a retired drywall contractor. He was also a fan of Bluegrass music and, on occasion, liked visiting the boat.
He was born on October 10, 1943, in Laconia, Indiana to the late Robert H. and Ollie (Hunter) Carroll. Tom was also preceded in death by his son, Robert Carroll, Jr.; and siblings, Marguerite Swartz, Ferriba Ann Carroll, Norma Jean Gregory, Zola Toops, Lola Gibbs, Linda Boes, JoAnn Rodewig, Roy Allen Carroll, Sue Feather, and Terry Carroll.
Tom is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patty (Shelton) Carroll; brother, Roger Carroll (Margie); granddaughter, Candice "Charlie" Carroll; great-granddaughter, Farrah Lynn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2016, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana) and on Tuesday after 10:00 a.m. His Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel at the funeral home with burial to follow at Otterbein Cemetery in Laconia.
