Robert Leon McKnight III (“Bob”), age 73, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at his family farm with his loving wife and daughter at bedside.
Born on February 20, 1953, Bob was a lifelong resident of Sellersburg, IN and parishioner of St. Joseph Church.
Bob started his professional career at Kentucky Metals and later Ford Motor Company KTP as a tool and dye maker. He was a proud member of the local UAW 862 and served as the coordinator of Ford Total Production. He retired at the age of 53 and continued to work on his true passions. A very skilled man who worked with his hands, Bob could always be found working in his barn whether on a jeep or farm equipment, bailing hay, boating, flying ultra lights or rehabbing a rental property. His passion was for trying new things and always expanding his knowledge. There was nothing Bob McKnight couldn’t do because of his patience, positivity, and resilience which he exemplified up until his passing. One of his favorite verses was Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Love, laughter, and steadfast faith guided Bob throughout his life.
Bob saw value in all things, material and otherwise, but especially the people he held close in his life. He walked through life with his best friend, Diane, always at his side. His greatest achievements were his children, grandchildren, and relationships with family and friends whom he valued above all else.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Diane (Smith) McKnight; his children, Rob McKnight (Holly) of Goshen, KY and Ashley McKnight Davis (Chance) of Sellersburg; his seven precious grandchildren, Audrey, Connor, Alex Kate, Evelyn, Beau, Mack and Caroline; his closest cousins Linda Stamper (Gee) and Terry Stamper; favorite in-laws, Donna Marcum (Jeff) and Myra Smith (Kim Suiter); many cherished extended family members and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Leon McKnight II and mother, Marcella Eckert McKnight.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026 from 9am-11am at St. Joe Chapel (2605 West St. Joe Rd., Sellersburg, IN 47172). A Requiem Mass will follow at 11 am with interment at the St. Joe Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Daughters of Mary of Nazareth and their facilities on the St. Joseph grounds.
