Robert & Bettye Redding

Louisville

Listen to Obituary

Robert (Bob) Redding was born January 28, 1928, in Florence, AL. He attended Coffee High School where he played most sports and especially enjoyed being the catcher on the baseball team and the quarterback for the football team. He served in the army as a paratrooper in Japan during peacetime occupation working in the post office. He was in the 11th Airborne Division. He returned home to AL and met the love of his life, Bettye Ezzell. Together they created a family with three children: Michael, Krista Manley (Terry), and Melissa Myrick (Justin). He spent most of his career as a lab technician at Rohm-Haas. He started in Huntsville, Al and then his job took him to Louisville, KY in 1970 where he lived until his death. He and his wife were able to retire and live their best days on the golf course together. They spent 26 winters and made many friends in Panama City Beach, their second home. He is survived by his children, 3 grandchildren, Seth Meyers (Sarah), Jay Myrick, and Andrew Myrick (Kalai), 4 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Jo Henson. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry and Ruby (Curtis) Redding and two brothers, Owen and Don. He died with his wife by his side hours before she died which was an answer to their prayers.

Bettye Ezzell Redding was born December 17, 1930, in Belgreen, AL. She attended high school in Sheffield, AL and then went to college at Lipscomb College followed by Florence State College. She spent her career as a bookkeeper and loved working with numbers. Even more importantly, she loved her children and later her grandchildren. When she retired she learned to play golf so she could spend time with her husband on golf courses all over the South. She loved the beach and enjoyed wintering in Florida where they made many lifelong friendships. She is survived by her children and grandchildren listed above as well as her great grandchildren: Lily Meyers, Seth (SJ) Meyers, Jr, Winry Myrick, and Raven Myrick. She is preceded in death by her parents, Percy O’Neil and Rena (Guin ) Ezzell, and her brother Robert Ezzell. She died a few hours after her beloved husband of 72 years.

These two people leave a legacy of love for God, love for their family, and love for their country. They served together at many congregations teaching, singing, and opening their home to all their friends. They lived the words of Micah the prophet acting justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with the Lord (Micah 6:8)
