Robert Maurice Akers, 79, of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021. Robert was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1961-1965 during the Vietnam War. Robert retired from ICI America, where he worked for 30 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his great-grandchildren.
He was born on April 19, 1942 in New Albany, Indiana to the late Benjamin Akers, Sr. and Freda Jennings Akers. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Robert (Bob Bob) Akers; sister, Sharon Fetz; and brother, Benjamin Akers, Jr.; and brother in-law, Joseph Perronie.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Janice Akers; daughter, Rebecca (Greg) Campbell; grandchildren, Kayla (Justin) Petitt, Tamara Campbell, James (Megan) Campbell and Joshua Campbell; great-grandchildren, Madison Campbell, Makenzie Campbell and Ella Petitt; sisters, Emily Perronie and Carolyn (Mike) Mayes; and many other family members and close friends.
Cremation was chosen following Robert's wishes. His Graveside Service with full military honors will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2021 at Fairview Cemetery (800 E 6th Street, New Albany, Indiana). A Celebration of Life Gathering will follow in Sellersburg, Indiana.
