Rita Ottilia (Pielmeier) Sommer

Rita Ottilia (Pielmeier) Sommer, 90, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2021. She enjoyed working with people and had a long career in real estate. After retiring, she left Illinois and moved to Naples, Florida, where she enjoyed warm, sunny days at the lazy river or swimming in the ocean. She was a caregiver and friend to many; Rita certainly lived a full and active life.

She was born on April 10, 1931, in Regensburg, Germany. Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Gerhard Sommer; and sister, Erna Schneider.

Rita is survived by her children, Richard Sommer (Julia) and Elisabeth Sommer; grandchildren, Gary Sommer (Noor), Tiffany Hadley (Jon), and Kelsey Cichorz; and her stars, her great-grandchildren, Amelia Hadley, Abigail Hadley, and Mivy Johnson; as well as many cousins and extended family members in Germany.

Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with her funeral service taking place at 2:00 p.m. Cremation will follow according to Rita's wishes. She will be laid to rest privately at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington, Illinois.
