Rita Mae (Carpenter) Shrader, 89, of Clarksville, Indiana passed away on Saturday afternoon, May 21, 2016. She was an employee for both the U.S. Census Bureau and the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant. Rita was a self-employed and extremely talented seamstress.
She was born on April 24, 1927 in New Albany, Indiana to the late Arch and Carrie (Akers) Carpenter. Rita was also preceded in death by her husband, Zane Shrader; son, Michael Shrader; brother, Stanley "Boots" Carpenter; sisters, Jean Thornell, JoAnn Sutton; and sister-in-law, Margie "Dottie" Sutton.
Rita is survived by her daughters, Jackie Shrader, Jill Sceifers (Joe); brother, Julian "Buddy" Carpenter; daughters in her heart, Carol and Debbie; along with many other nieces, nephews, friends, and caregivers that will miss her deeply.
Visitation will be from 4 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Thursday after 9 AM. Her Funeral Service will be at 11 AM Thursday in the chapel at the funeral home with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
