Rita Marie Dama, a beloved educator and an avid lover of animals, passed away on September 26, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on February 14, 1958, Rita embodied the essence of kindness and generosity, leaving a mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.
For 27 years, Rita dedicated her life to teaching at Stephen Foster Elementary School, where she nurtured young minds with unwavering patience and boundless compassion. Her commitment to education extended beyond the classroom, as she tirelessly supported her students and their families, weaving an intricate tapestry of joy and inspiration within the community. Rita's influence as an educator went well beyond academics; she instilled values of empathy and resilience, shaping her pupils into thoughtful and caring individuals.
Outside of her professional accomplishments, Rita was an admirer of music and culture, attending over 200 concerts throughout her life. Each performance was not merely entertainment for her, but an experience to be cherished and shared, echoing her vivacious spirit. She radiated joy in her pursuits, reveling in the melodies that resonated with her Givers’ heart. Rita loved the holidays and sharing them with her family.
Rita's warmth and nurturing nature extended to her cherished love for animals. Her home was a haven for furry companions, reflecting her caring personality that shone brightly in all aspects of her life. Whether lending a helping hand to family or sharing a concert with friends, Rita’s commitment to others illuminated her journey, revealing a life devoted to joy, laughter, and unabashed generosity.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Dorothy Reccius and her sister, Jean Reccius.
Rita is survived by her husband of 49 years, David Dama; siblings, Rosanna (Scott) Helsel, Judy (Tim) Duncan, Pat (Lisa) Reccius and Roy (Bridgette) Reccius; a host of nieces and nephews; best friend, Vicki (Randy) Houston and many fur babies.
In remembrance of Rita Marie Dama, a viewing will be held on October 2, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville. The funeral service will follow on October 3, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM at the same location, culminating in a graveside service at Calvary Cemetery at 11:30 AM. Friends, family, and all whose lives Rita touched are encouraged to celebrate her legacy and remember the boundless love she so freely imparted.
As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we will forever cherish the lessons she taught us, the laughter we shared, and the profound light she brought into our lives.
