It is with a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of Richard Eugene Standard, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and devoted friend. Born on December 29, 1953, in Louisville, Kentucky, Richard’s journey through life was one marked by kindness, a deep-seated sense of loyalty, and a passion for the things he loved.
A proud graduate of Seneca High School, Richard held lifelong ties to his hometown. He embraced his duties with dignity while proudly serving our country in the U.S. Army, where he exemplified dedication as a tanker and an expert marksman. Forever the enthusiast, Richard found joy in the camaraderie of sports, wholeheartedly supporting the University of Louisville.
Richard's heart was as expansive as it was gentle; he possessed a soft nature that endeared him to all who crossed his path. Whether immersed in the soothing melodies of easy listening rock 'n' roll, particularly songs by Elton John, or reminiscing about his cherished Ford Mustangs, Richard embraced life's simple pleasures.
His family extends their heartfelt love and memories of him. He is survived by his daughter Shara Taylor, his stepdaughter Melissa Sowell (David Thompson), and his grandson Seth Taylor, who will carry forward the warmth of his spirit. He is also remembered fondly by his brother Michael Standard and his sister Sarah Lynn Giles. Richard's legacy is further enriched by the loving memories shared with him by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mae Josephine Elmore, and father, Harvey Eugene Standard, who surely welcomed him with open arms. His beloved spouse and mother of his daughter Shara, Rosalyn Renee Standard, and his spouse Carol Standard, along with his dear sister Marilyn Walker, have left this world before him, and now are reunited.
Richard Eugene Standard departed this life on August 11, 2025, in Salem, Indiana. His absence will be deeply felt, but the memories of his laughter, his unyielding support, and his open heart shall forever echo in the hearts of those who loved him.
