Richard Thomas Schafer
August 11, 1947 — April 6, 2020
Richard Thomas Schafer, 72, of Clarksville, Indiana, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2020. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran that proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. Rick was an active member in the Clarksville community and was a devoted volunteer for the Southern Indiana Youth Boosters.
He was born on August 11, 1947 in Scottsburg, Indiana to the late Robert and Patricia (Baker) Schafer. Rick was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Schafer.
Rick is survived by his daughter, Dori Schafer (Kristian Hedstrom); grandchildren, Liam and Avery Hedstrom; sisters, Dawn Schafer, Celine Day (John); brother, Marty Schafer (Penny); former wife, Marilyn Schafer; as well as many extended family members and friends.
Cremation was chosen and Rick will be laid to rest privately with military honors at New Albany National Cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or to Disabled American Veterans.
