Richard P. Zalat

Richard P. Zalat, 65, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2010. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. He was a former employee of Safety Kleen and Jeff Boat and a former member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Jeffersonville. He loved photography and was a member of the Louisville Photography Club.

Richard was born on March 27, 1945 in Batavia, New York to the late John and Aurelia (Urbaniak) Zalat. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, John and Leonard Zalat and sister, Valerie Hunt.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Jane C. (Conger) Zalat; daughter, Alison Dorman and her husband Troy of Jeffersonville; sons, Matthew Zalat and his wife, Katie of Indianapolis and Michael Zalat and his wife, Mindy of Jeffersonville; grandchildren, Isabelle and Natalie Zalat and Vincent Dorman; three step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 PM Sunday, September 26, at Newcomer Funeral Home – Southern Indiana Chapel (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana). The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday, September 27, 2010 at St. Augustine Catholic Church (315 East Chestnut Street, Jeffersonville) followed by military honors.
