Richard "Rick" L. Nelson, 67, passed away at Norton Hospital on January 26, 2021. Rick was born in Louisville to the late James Franklin and Mary Edith Nelson on June 13, 1953. He was an Instrumentation and Electrical Technician at Louisville Gas and Electric, where he retired in 2001 after 24 years of service.
In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his three brothers, James, Robert and Kenneth Nelson.
Surviving Rick are his nieces, Sheryl (Bob) Lauder, Wendy (Mark) Wagoner, Teresa Nelson, Victoria (Glen) Nelson-Ayres, Cynthia (Jerrod) Ferguson; plus nine great and five great-great nieces and nephews.
Rick was a proud South Ender who enjoyed The New York Times and Washington Post, challenging crossword puzzles, reading psychology books, and listening to Van Morrison, John Prine, Jon Bon Jovi, and others from the same genre.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Westport Place, Norton Cancer Institute, Dr. Don Stevens and his team, and Hosparus Health for their care and compassion during Rick's bouts with cancer and COVID.
His family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
