Richard Harrison Hendricks, Sr., a dedicated and hardworking man, passed away peacefully at his home in New Albany, Indiana on December 11, 2025, at the age of 98. Born in Chicago, Illinois on July 24, 1927, Richard led a life characterized by simple joys and integrity.

A proud graduate of high school, Richard devoted many years to the transportation industry as a trucker, where his diligence and straightforward nature earned him the respect of his peers. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II, stationed in Japan, where he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. His military service was a source of pride throughout his life.

He was a man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures and shared that joy freely with those around him. He had a deep love for fishing, where he found peace by the water, patience in the quiet moments, and happiness in every cast. Bowling was another passion, one that brought out his friendly competitiveness and love of camaraderie, whether he was celebrating a strike or laughing off a missed pin. He also had a love for the casino in his earlier days.

Traveling filled his life with adventure and curiosity. He cherished exploring new places, and creating lasting memories along the way. Each journey reflected his appreciation for life and his eagerness to experience all the world had to offer.

Above all, he will be remembered for the warmth of his spirit, his stories, and the time he so generously shared with family and friends. His passions were not just hobbies, but expressions of the way he lived—fully and joyfully.

He is survived by sons, Richard Hendricks, Jr. Samuel (Ingrid) Hendricks, and Gary Hendricks; daughters, Wanda Dix, Delores Hendricks, and Mary Hendricks; along with 10 adoring grandchildren and 31 loving great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Hazel Hendricks and Ollie Bell Hendricks.

A visitation will be held on December 22, 2025, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Howard Chapel MBC, located at 1715 E Market St, New Albany, IN 47150, followed by a funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM.
