Richard H. Taylor, age 89 of Louisville, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Richard Humphrey Taylor was born on January 26, 1936, in Louisville, Kentucky. He was the fourth of five children born to the late James B. and Sarah M. Taylor. He was the last surviving sibling of Ethel, Nelson, Sarah, and Ann (Delores). Richard accepted Christ at an early age at Centennial Olivet Baptist Church. In reflection of the quiet and humble life he led, Richard was called home peacefully on July 2, 2025. Richard graduated from Louisville Central High School in 1953 and went on to enroll at the University of Louisville. Before earning his bachelor’s degree in Accounting from UofL, Richard served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1964. Richard worked for the Internal Revenue Service for more than 35 years. During his time at the IRS, he met Rose Mary (Mitchell), and the two began a relationship that blossomed over the next seven years. They were married in 1973, and Richard lovingly embraced the role of father to her two sons, Anthony (deceased) and Kevin Thompkins. In 1978, they welcomed their daughter, Tinisha Yvette, whom they raised with devotion and care. Richard was a steadfast provider and deeply cherished the family he and Rose Mary built together.
Richard leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Rose Mary Taylor; two children, Kevin (Missy) Thompkins and Tinisha (Dalton) Taylor Holt; and a granddaughter, Naya Taylor. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 11am to 1pm on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky 40243, with a celebration of Richard's life there at 1pm. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
