He was born in Madison, Mississippi on November 8, 1953.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Richard Ely, Sr. and Rosie Lee (Denson) Elay, brothers; Napoleon Luke Denson, LeFlora Denson; sisters; Clara Evans, Rushell Elay, Anette Elay, Jeanette Elay.
Richard is survived by his daughter; Amanda (Ranney) Davis, granddaughter; Raegan Davis, sisters, Herticile Thomas, Frances Washington, brothers; John Elay, Marshall Elay, Michael Denson; and a host of other family members and friends.
