Richard Hayes Coffey

Richard Hayes Coffey, 94, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2020.

He was born on December 31, 1925 in Green County, KY to Daniel and Virginia (Bagby) Coffey. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Lorine Coffey, former wife, Joyce Jolly, sons, Ashley Coffey, Sr. and Gary Coffey, daughter in-law, Phyllis Coffey, brothers, William Albert "Tom" Coffey, Gene Coffey and Glen Coffey and grandson, Michael Coffey.

Richard proudly served our country during WW II while enlisted in the U.S. Army. For many years he worked for General Plywood before they closed their doors. Richard then went on to work for Hillerich and Bradsby with his two sons, Ashley and Gary. In his later years, he started his own home improvement business and owned several apartment buildings. In his free time he enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing, camping, bingo, playing cards, spending time with family and listening to country music. Richard was a man of strong faith; being a member of Shawnee Baptist Church for many years.

Richard is survived by his children, Colleen (Jim) Jeffries, Mike Coffey, Joni (Lisa) Coffey and Timmy Coffey, siblings, Cecil Coffey, Margaret Houk, and Tavie Louise Coffey, daughter in- law, Kathy Coffey, grandchildren, Patty (Mike) Bentley, Ashley Coffey, Jr., Tonia Coffey, Tina (Pat) Tompkins, Mickey (Ruth) Coffey, Tammy Coffey, Lynnette (Chris) Burdine, Patrick (Toni) Jeffries, Megan Jeffries, Sherri Reed, Scott Coffey, Tabitha Proctor and Adam Proctor, 25 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other close family and friends that will miss him dearly.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to St. Matthews Care Center for all the love, care and support they have shown Richard and the family.

All services are private for family only at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel with burial to follow at Haycraft Memorial Cemetery in Snap, KY.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in either floral arrangements or to the family to help with final expenses.
