Reverend Timothy W. Koenig

Reverend Timothy W. Koenig, 88, of Louisville, Kentucky, was called by God to his home in Heaven at 9:40 a.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

He became a child of God through Baptism on June 5, 1938 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Des Peres, MO. His education was received in Lutheran Elementary schools; St. Paul's High School, Concordia, MO and St. John's Academy, Winfield, KS for high school; St. John's Jr. College. He received his B.S. in Education from Concordia College, Seward, NE; his Bachelor of Divinity and Master of Divinity from Concordia Theological Seminary, Springfield, IL. He also did graduate work at Nebraska State in Kearney, NE and at Seminex in St. Louis, MO.

Before entering the Seminary, Tim taught the elementary grades at Christ Lutheran School, Juniata, NE. He was also the school principal and director of three church choirs. After an internship in South Dakota, he served as Pastor to congregations in Illinois, Iowa, Texas, and Michigan. The majority of service was in Texas. He also served as interim pastor in Kentucky for a short time. 

Tim was the son of Reverend Wilbert and Viola Koenig. He was the oldest of five children. He loved life and people and the work to which God early in life called him. He loved the outdoors, especially being near the water where he could enjoy being on the boat and fishing. The special fishing times were with his son, Tim Jr., although they weren't nearly often enough to suit him.

Tim's "kids" were the joy of his life even with all of its ups and downs. Lisa, Lori, Tim, Jr. and Jenni all held a very special place in his heart and he was so very proud of each of them. He was married to their mother, Neloise, in 1959. They were together until 1989 when life in this world took some of its toll.

In 1991 he was married to his dear Carol. She was a true joy in his life, too. They were the best of friends and the deepest of soul mates. Their love always sustained them even in the many crises they faced in their precious time together.

Pastor Koenig was raised in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and served parishes in that church for 25 years. In 1990 he became a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and was rostered in the Northern Texas-Northern Louisiana Synod. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church of that Synod in San Angelo, TX and Calvary's Pastor from October of 1993 until he retired in May of 1999.

He was born on May 7, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri to Wilbert and Viola (Haag) Koenig. He is preceded in death by his father, Wilbert Koenig; mother, Viola Koenig and his son, Matthew Koenig.

Tim is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Carol Koenig; children, Lisa (Darrell) Schoppa, Lori McDonald, Timothy (Teri) Koenig, Jr., Jennifer Koenig, step-children, Scott (Anita) Dvorak, Cathy (AJ) Todd; grandchildren, Corey Morgan, Cori (Max) Dominguez, Jeff (Kristy) Rebarchik, Acacia McDonald, Emily (Clay) Wolff, Hannah Koenig, Matthew Koenig, Ryann Lee, Laura Dvorak, Grant Dvorak, Will (Emma) Todd, Peter Todd; great-granddaughter, Lyric Morgan; siblings, Flo Niermann, Linda Otto, Reverend Dan (Carolyn) Koenig, Jim Koenig; as well as a host of extended family and friends to cherish his loving memory forever.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 12, 2026 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church, 1127 East Broadway, Louisville, Kentucky 40204. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at Concordia Lutheran Church with a reception immediately following at the church. A private graveside service will take place at a later date.
