Rev. Jackie Lee Brown, Sr., 82, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2019. Jackie was one of the first black basketball players in New Albany back in 1952. He loved to travel and go to family gatherings. Jackie spent many years in ministry. Besides his love for God, his greatest passion was his grandchildren.
He was born on December 6, 1936, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Leo and Mildred (Robinson) Brown. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his Wife, Launetta Brown; Son, Jackie Brown, Jr.; Daughter, Sonia Phillips; Sisters, Ophelia Robinson, Darlene McIntyre, and Elizabeth Newbolt; and Brothers, Jayhue Murdock and Calvin "Plunk" Moorman.
Jackie is survived by his Daughters, Lavette (Kent Brown, Sr.) Gaither and Devon (Curtis) Hambrick; Sister, Ollie Bea Childress; Brother, William Brown; Granddaughter, Ebony Phillips; Grandsons, Chandler Hambrick and Cameron Hambrick; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
