Revella "Sammye" (Souder) Day, aged 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2026. Born on January 23, 1936, in Louisville, Kentucky, Sammye lived a rich and meaningful life devoted to her faith, family, and community.
Throughout her life, Sammye was deeply connected to Doss High School, where she not only worked but also engaged with the institution on many levels. A woman of strong faith, she was a devoted member of Grace Lutheran Church, finding solace and purpose in her spiritual journey. Sammye's passion extended beyond her professional and religious commitments; she was an enthusiastic sports fan, particularly fond of football and basketball, and cherished cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats.
Sammye’s loved spending time with both family and friends. She treasured the moments spent in their company and also had a special affection for dogs.
She was born to Ivor Glenn, Sr. and Anna (Balz) Souder and was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Earl Roger Day, as well as her brothers, Ivor Glenn, Jr., and Gene Souder.
Sammye is survived by her daughters, Revella "Ann" Hamilton and her husband Cecil, Teresa Day Moser and her husband Karl, Sr., and Amy Day. She also leaves behind her grandson, Matthew Robinson, along with step-grandchildren Katie Coomer and her husband Jonathan, and Karl Moser, Jr. and his wife Stephanie, as well as several great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her sisters, Marjorie Page and Patricia Main, her brother Robert Souder, her sister-in-law Gayle Souder, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A visitation to honor Sammye’s life will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany), followed by continued visitation on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church (1787 Klerner Lane, New Albany). Sammye’s funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the church, with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
