Rev. Vera Gerldine Middleton, a devoted pastor, loving wife, cherished mother, and treasured friend, peacefully transitioned from this life, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and service that touched countless lives.
Born the youngest of thirteen children to William McPheeters and Ora McPheeters Holland, Vera grew up surrounded by family, faith, and resilience. From her earliest years, it was clear that her heart was set on God, community, and creating meaningful change in the world around her.
Rev. Middleton faithfully ministered for decades, carrying the gospel message both near and far. Her mission work extended across continents, including life-changing ministry in Africa where many souls came to know Christ through her service. At home, she could often be heard preaching the Word over local radio airwaves, sowing seeds of hope in the hearts of her listeners.
Outside the pulpit, Vera found joy in the simple and beautiful things of life-planting her summer garden, taking peaceful rides to the park, and delighting in family gatherings. Her greatest joy of all was her family. She deeply loved her daughter, Myah L. McPheeters, and found endless happiness in the lives of her six grandchildren: Anthony White, Cecil Price, Caleb Price, Cayden Price, Hezekiah Williams, and Messiah Williams, and her four great-grandchildren: Michael Gaines, Amiri White, Anthony White III, and Lygend White.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Morris Middleton, and 11 brothers and sisters. She leaves behind her daughter Myah, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and one sister, Lavonne Mukes, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will carry her memory forward.
Rev. Vera Gerldine Middleton will be remembered as a woman of strength, vision, and unwavering faith. Her life was a testimony to God’s grace, her ministry a gift to countless souls, and her presence a blessing to all who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love and service will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she touched.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday, September 19, 2025 at Messiah Temple Church, (1401 Mitchell Ave, Jeffersonville, IN 47130), with her funeral service to follow at 1:00 pm.
