Listen to Obituary

Rena Kay (McKinley) Burnett, 67, of Borden, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a proud grandmother, and a treasured friend. She passed away with her faith held high, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and grace.

Rena was the beloved wife of Ernie, her partner in life and love for 49 wonderful years. They celebrated their anniversary on June 16th - a love story so genuine and enduring, it could have come straight from the movies. Their bond was built on laughter, deep respect, and unwavering devotion, and it remains an inspiration to all who knew them.

She was the cherished mother of Chris (Denise) Burnett and Joshua Burnett; and her heart shined brightest when she spoke of her loving granddaughter, Gracie Burnett, who was the light of her life. Rena poured her love generously into her family, and her role as mother-in-law and friend was filled with warmth, kindness, and steadfast support. Rena is also survived by her siblings, Micah (Johanna) McKinley, Monty McKinley, and Paul McKinley; as well as her sister-in-law, Lynette McKinley.

She had a deep love for reading and a lifelong affection for horses-passions that reflected her thoughtful and spirited nature. Rena’s faith in God guided her through every chapter of her life, and she lived each day with compassion, purpose, and quiet strength.

Her absence leaves a piece of our hearts missing. She was truly the perfect wife, an incredible mother, and the best friend anyone could ask for. Rena will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the joy of knowing her.

Rena is preceded in death by her parents, Von and Glenda (Bills) McKinley; and her brother, Kenny McKinley.

Cremation was chosen following Rena's wishes and a family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
