Raymond Louis "Ray" Sims, Sr., 84, of Lanesville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2016. He retired from the Norfolk Southern Railroad after many years of service and attended St Mary's of the Knobs Catholic Church. Ray belonged to the Louisville Motorcycle Club and was an outstanding member of the NRA. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and served as a military police. He enjoyed country music, camping, and black powder trap shooting and was a gun enthusiast.
He was born on November 14, 1931, in Louisville, Kentucky to Louis and Mable (Goldsberry) Sims. Along with his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his son, Kerry Brian Sims. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Agnes (Woods) Sims; his sons, Raymond, Jr., (Carol), Tim (Melody), and Patrick Sims (Melissa); his daughters, Mary Sims and Patricia Emerson (Tom); 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2016, and 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church (5719 St. Mary's Road, Floyds Knobs, Indiana 47119) with burial to follow at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Cemetery in Floyds Knobs, Indiana.
