Ralph E. Chambers, 65, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away Monday, October 19, 2015 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville.
Born on Friday, June 30, 1950, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, he was the son of the late Julia Bertha (nee McDonald) Shepherd of Louisville and the late James Mart Chambers of Rockholds, Kentucky.
Ralph was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett Frank Chambers of Coldwater, Michigan, and Sgt. Roger Lee Chambers of Corbin, Kentucky, and by his grandparents, Benjamin Franklin Chambers and Rachel (Byrd) Chambers of Scott County, Tennessee, and Everett Clayton McDonald Sr. and Nellie Mae (Brown) McDonald of Louisville, Kentucky. He is survived by a large extended family.
Ralph was a veteran of the Vietnam War who served in the United States Air Force as an electrical engineer on the SR71 Blackbird, also known as the Habu, which flew at the edge of space. He was a former Deputy Sheriff of Scott County, Tennessee. He was also an officer of the Corbin (Kentucky) Police Department and the Veterans Administration Police Department in Lexington, Kentucky, and was a 911 dispatcher for the Emergency Services Department in Fort Knox, Kentucky.
His wishes were to be cremated immediately, without a viewing or funeral. There will be a private memorial service at a later date for his family.
