Rachel Williams, 96, of Louisville, KY went to sleep on February 13, 2026, and is waiting for Jesus to come with the trumpet call of God and awaken those who have died in Christ. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)
Rachel was born in Munfordville, KY to Mack and Alice Boyd. She was called Angel by her parents due to her sweet and shy characteristics. She had an older sister, Ruth Harlow and an older brother, Mack Boyd, Jr. During her teenage years, the family moved to the Louisville area. She graduated from Highland Academy in Portland, TN where she worked in the business office. She then went to Spencerian business school in downtown Louisville. Upon graduation she began working at a trucking company, but this was cut short when Tate Williams fell in love with her at the Louisville First Seventh-day Adventist Church. Rachel refused to marry as long as she was a teenager. Two months after she turned twenty, they eloped! Then began her career as a devoted wife, mother, and bookkeeper for Tate's small construction company.
Tate and Rachel had three children, which she referred to as their three "D's" - Dan, Dick, and Dianne. They were strict and very loving parents who were actively involved in church. If the doors were open, the family was there! Many things were done for their church behind the scenes as they did not seek praise from others.
Tate and Rachel were partners in every sense of the word. They fed their family with home grown vegetables and fruits. Eating all year round due to their canning and freezing efforts. Rachel made homemade bread, granola, and yogurt regularly along with many other tasty dishes. She was determined to feed her family in the healthiest manner. She was a fierce advocate for each of her family members even though she was terribly shy by nature.
Tate and Rachel sacrificially worked together to provide an Adventist education for their three children and each graduated from college. Both loved animals and exposed the family to many types.
Rachel lost her beloved husband and partner in 1997 and went on to survive a difficult battle with cancer in 2002. She lived her faith and studied her Bible daily as she taught her children to do every morning. Many celebrations and adventures continued until a couple of months before her death.
Proverbs 31:10-12 An excellent woman (one who is spiritual, capable, intelligent, and virtuous), who is he who can find her? Her value is more precious than jewels and her worth is far above rubies or pearls. The heart of her husband trusts in her (with secure confidence), and he will have no lack of gain. She comforts, encourages and does him only good and not evil all the days of her life.
Memorial Service to be held Saturday, February 28, 3:00 p.m. at the Louisville First Seventh-day Adventist Church located at 2988 Newburg Road, Louisville, KY 40205.
