Phyllis S. Patterson, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, peacefully departed this world on February 7, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 86. Born on March 4, 1939, in the quaint town of Campbellsville, Kentucky, Phyllis dedicated over 25 years of her life to serving others as a custodian at Baptist East Hospital, embodying a spirit of hard work and commitment that left a lasting impression on her colleagues and the community alike.
Phyllis was more than just her job; she was the heart of her family, a nurturing presence whose love resonated through every corner of her home. She is survived by her three cherished children, Annie, Scott, and Diane, who will forever carry the warmth of their mother’s love in their hearts. As a grandmother, she embraced her role with delight, guiding and loving her grandchildren: Brianne, Faith, Hope, Charity, Josiah, Bethany, Phillip, Malachi, Shannon, Shawna, Anthony, Whitney, and Jamie. Additionally, her legacy carries on through her 19 great-grandchildren, who were truly the light of her life.
Phyllis found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether it was engaging in crafts or tending to her yard, she approached every task with creativity and enthusiasm, always taking pride in her work. Her hands were never idle, and her gardens reflected her loving spirit, turning them into sanctuaries of beauty and color.
She was preceded in death by her dear husband, Norman Patterson, whose absence she felt deeply. Phyllis also mourned the loss of her parents, Ira and Mary Smith, a great-grandson, KiJuan Perkins, and an infant brother, all of whom hold a special place in her heart and in the memories she cherished.
Phyllis's family bonds extended beyond the immediate, as she shared life’s moments with her brothers, Glenn and Michael, and her sister-in-law, Paula. Together, they formed a close-knit family, rich in stories, traditions, and mutual support.
A visitation will be held in her honor on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:30 PM, both at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville located at 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40272. She will then be laid to rest with her husband at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, KY.
As we gather to reminisce and honor Phyllis, we remember not just her passing but the love, laughter, and lessons she imparted to us. She touched many lives and leaves behind a legacy of kindness and resilience that will continue to inspire for years to come. Rest in peace, dear Phyllis; your spirit will remain alive in our hearts forever.
