Phyllis Jean (Runyon) Nowlin, 99, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025. Born on November 26, 1925, in Crossville, Illinois, she was the daughter of James and Edna (Meiser) Runyon. Phyllis led a life filled with dedication and compassion, most notably during her career as a nursing assistant at Clark Memorial Hospital, where she touched the lives of many. Beyond her professional life, Phyllis had been a devoted member of Southeast Christian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Nowlin; her daughter, Karen Barrett; her brother, James Wesley; and her beloved grandson, Gary Scott.
She is survived by her sons, Richard Nowlin and Raymond Scott. Phyllis also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren: Sheryl Barrett, Bryan Scott, Dwayne Scott, Joel Barrett, and Stephanie Scott. Her family extends further with numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. Phyllis spent her final days among many good friends at Vivera Senior Living, where the bonds of friendship and shared experiences enriched her life in wonderful ways.
Honoring her wishes, Phyllis will be cremated, with arrangements entrusted to Newcomer Cremations Funerals & Receptions in New Albany. She will be laid to rest privately at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. Contributions in her memory may be made to Southeast Christian Church.
