Phyllis Napper Belden

February 8, 1944 — April 11, 2021

Listen to Obituary
Phyllis Elaine Napper Belden, who loved to be affectionately called "Mom" by her kids, departed this life surrounded by her family on Sunday morning April 11th 2021, on the palliative care floor with Hosparus care at Baptist Hospital in Louisville, KY.

The journey began when Phyllis was born at Fort Bragg Army base on February 8, 1944, to Paul J. Napper and Treva Lorene Walters Napper. She graduated from Shepherdsville High School and was joined in holy matrimony to her high school sweetheart Donald J. Belden at Brooks Baptist Church on June 23, 1962 and was married for over 49 years. Phyllis raised her children with love and devotion with their father, Donald J. Belden in Shepherdsville, Kentucky.

She leaves to cherish her memories, children, Kevin (Julie) Belden of Louisville and Jennifer (John) Roberson of Somerset; grandson, John Belden; four siblings; Carol (Kenny) Hester of Shepherdsville, Lee (Ann) Napper of Elizabethtown, Pat (Frank) Olcott of Bardstown and Steve Napper of Shepherdsville. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews to mourn her loss along with the father of her children, Donald J. Belden.

Phyllis was a believer and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 12 at a Billy Graham revival at the fairgrounds in Louisville. She attended church all of her life and taught Sunday School, led GA's, participated in WMU, supported missions and sang in the choir. She had an incredible work ethic and worked as a bookkeeper the majority of her career in a variety of industries and eventually retired from H.T.P handling accounts receivable after 15 years. She loved kids and after retirement she began babysitting in her home. Phyllis enjoyed writing poetry and had two poems published. She loved to read, working on crafts which included embroidery and coloring, watching U of L basketball, shopping for anything, playing on the computer, eating ice cream, collecting bells, dolls, music boxes and jewelry, beating her sisters at playing Scrabble, singing along to hymns and oldies and she was crazy about everything Elvis. Phyllis was diagnosed with celiac disease in 1981 and had to remove all gluten from her diet. She is now dining with Jesus in Heaven and eating all of the bread and foods she wasn't able to enjoy during this life. Phyllis will be remembered for her contagious laugh, silly personality and determination.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents, two young siblings, Paula Napper, Linda Napper and an infant daughter Elaine Kay Belden.

Services will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 13800 Akin Road, Saturday April 17th at 12pm with Rev. Louis Humes officiating. Visitation will be from 10-12 with entombment at Evergreen Cemetery & Mausoleum.
