Phoebe "Ann" Allen, age 92, passed peacefully on Monday, March 21, 2016 surrounded by loving family. Affectionately known as "Annie", she was from Prestonsburg, KY but spent her final 27 years with family in Louisville. She was the daughter of Lawrence and Betty Bray and one of 7 children. She is predeceased by her parents as well as brothers James, Jack and Lawrence, and sisters Ella and Hester. Annie was married to Glenn D Allen for 41 years before he passed in 1987.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Betty; sisters, Julia B. Bowman and Kim Stutz; 15 nieces and nephews; and most recently, 3 great nieces and nephews she enjoyed spoiling.
For nearly 25 years, she owned and operated a florist in Prestonsburg, creating beautiful arrangements that were the talk of the town. Upon moving to Louisville in 1988, that loving touch continued as she worked for Kentucky Harvest the next 20 years, helping coordinate volunteers who delivered food to missions around town. So popular with volunteers, she was chosen to represent Kentucky Harvest in the Pegasus Parade in 1991. She had the most infectious laugh and combined with her sense of humor, she would radiate a room with her sheer presence. But it was her undying love for family that we will always remember, as well as her penchant for making the best fried chicken or the best cheese spread you'd ever tasted. She was a member of the Eastern Star lodge and called Southeast Christian her church home.
Visitation is Thursday, March 24, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive in Middletown, KY. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2016 at Newcomer. Private burial will follow in Prestonsburg, KY.
