Phillip "Phil" A. Gardner, aged 61, of Louisville, Kentucky, peacefully passed away on May 27, 2025. Phil was a cherished husband, father, Papaw Phil, brother, uncle, and friend, whose warm spirit and generosity touched the lives of everyone who knew him. An enthusiastic collector, Phil had a special fondness for Hot Wheels and cars, and he was always eager to share his vast knowledge with others.
Phil was not only an exceptional cook, but he also possessed a heart of gold, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His unwavering support for his loved ones made him a pillar in their lives, and he will be profoundly missed by all.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Gardner and Lynda Bigelow, and his beloved nephew, Thomas Allen.
Phil is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Kelly James; daughters Rebecca (Aaron) Jefferson and Alix (Melanie Collins) James; his only cherished grandson, Matthew; sister Jackie DeVoe; and his beloved puppy, Chem, whom he chose and adopted from Louisville Metro Animal Services. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and a circle of supportive and loving friends and family.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, located at 10304 Dixie Highway. A memorial service honoring Phil's remarkable life will follow at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions in Phil’s memory be made to Friends of Louisville Metro Animal Services, reflecting his love for animals.
