Pearl Elizabeth (Kuriger) King, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed from this earth peacefully on June 2, 2026, at her home. Born on December 5, 1931, in Louisville, Kentucky, Pearl lived a life devoted to her family and the simple joys of caring deeply for those around her.
Pearl took immense pride in her role as a stay-at-home wife, mother, and grandmother, considering her family to be her proudest accomplishment and the greatest source of joy throughout her life. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her loved ones; she had a compassionate heart for all living creatures. Pearl especially enjoyed taking care of baby birds that had fallen from their nests, dogs, people, and most dearly, her yard. Among her favorite pastimes was raking leaves, a quiet ritual through which she found peace and satisfaction.
She is survived by her son, David (Virginia) Hyde; her daughter, Karen (Steve) Slechta; and her sister, Kay Hite. Pearl was a proud grandmother to Sean Christopher Hyde, Joshua (Sarah) Hyde, Kevin Slechta, and Stephanie (Dave) Delbrueck. Her great-grandchildren, Ian Hyde, James Hyde, Joseph Spalding, Chloe Spalding, and Delaney Delbrueck, will forever hold her memory close. The love she poured into her family created a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore King; her parents, Frank and Georgia Kuriger; and her granddaughter-in-law, Candace Barnette Hyde.
A visitation will be held on June 8, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the same location.
As we remember Pearl Elizabeth King, we honor a life marked by quiet strength, unwavering devotion, and a deep love for her family and all living things. Her legacy of kindness and care will endure in the hearts of those she touched.
The family requests that contributions in Pearl’s memory be made to American Cancer Society.
