Paul Puryear Sr. went to eternal rest on March 26, 2021 at the age of 86 years old in Louisville, Kentucky. Paul was born on January 10, 1935 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Jason & Mary Lou Puryear. He was the youngest of 10 siblings (James, Jason, Samuel Lee, Ruth Briggs, Madison, George, Catherine Kelly, Hermon all of which preceded him in death). He has one living brother Timothy Puryear. Paul was a loving husband to a devoted wife Arnetta Puryear for 42 years. They were married on April 21, 1979.
Paul worked at Park Duvalle from 1982 until 1990. He retired from Jewish Hospital in 2001. He also worked at Cave Hill Cemetery after retirement. Paul served in the Army from 1952-1955. He served in the Korean War and was part of the 82nd Airborne.
Paul was a Christian. He professed faith and hope in God at an early age and accepted Christ as his Lord. He is survived by his loving wife Arnetta Puryear (Punkie), and 8 children Roland Sr. (Regina), Phyllis, James Sr. (Dora), Chris (Lisa), Shirl (Shawn Sr.), Felicia, Ramon Sr. (Mittie) and Paul Jr. (Tiandra). He was preceded in death by 3 children Sherrie, Steve and Gregory and 1 grandson Anthony. He had 39 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws.
Paul was an avid bowler. He bowled on several bowling leagues Tri-State Traveling League, Can Rune 72, Strike & Spares, Thelma Lane Federal. He also played softball with The Newburg Six Pack. In his later years, he enjoyed playing cards and Pokeno every Friday night with his family. Whenever we saw Paul/Dad coming, we looked forward to a good laugh and good times. He was always the life of the party. We will miss his joking ways and his radiant smile.
