Paul Lewis Grooms

Paul Lewis Grooms, a longtime resident of Clark County, Indiana, passed away in Clarksville on July 28, 2026 as a result of kidney failure. Being 94 years old, he was born in Glasgow, Kentucky on March 3, 1932.

A lifelong mechanic, Paul owned several service stations over the years in both Kentucky and Indiana, including Jeffersonville Marathon and Auto Service Center on the corner of Eighth and Main Streets.

From 1951 to 1956, he served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was proud of his military service. He loved to tell stories to anyone who would listen about this period in his life. Paul truly loved our country.

In 1986 he met Susie Buckles at his Jeffersonville service station and they married a short time afterwards, both finding "the love of their lives." Susie was a local musician/singer and for the last 25 years, with Paul's encouragement, performed in towns across the Rio Grand River in Texas, with Paul serving as her road manager. They met many fans, some of which became close friends.

Paul was from a family of ten siblings, with only one sister left, Linda Baxter (Wayne) of Campbellsville, Kentucky. He is also survived by four children, nine grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Paul was a loving, caring man, who loved life and fought hard until the very end.

Paul's wish was to be cremated and Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) was entrusted with his care. He will be laid to rest on his daughter's farm in Kentucky, just the way he wanted to be. No formal service is planned, but a private celebration of his life will be enjoyed by his family.
