Listen to Obituary

Patrick Stephen "Steve" Hughes, 84, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 13, 2026 with his wife and children by his side.

Born on May 25, 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky, Steve was the son of the late George Patrick and Mary Doris (Detrick) Hughes. He dedicated 35 years of service to General Electric, where he worked in the Marketing Department. Following his retirement, Steve found great joy working as an usher for the Louisville Bats, a position that allowed him to combine his love for baseball with his gift for connecting with other fans.

Steve was a devoted Catholic whose faith remained a guiding force throughout his life. He deeply loved his family and treasured his role as "Popo," finding immense joy spending time with his grandchildren. A lifelong fan of the New York Yankees, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite team. When his children were young, Steve was actively involved in their lives as a coach and league commissioner, dedicating countless hours to supporting youth sports and helping shape the lives of young athletes in his community.

In his later years, Steve especially treasured the time spent with his beloved wife, Norma. Together, they enjoyed traveling, attending Broadway performances and having fine dining experiences.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Norma (Franke) Hughes of Jeffersonville; his children, Mark Hughes (Lucia) of Eminence, Kentucky, Shannon Ice (Allen) of Bardstown, Kentucky; his step-children, Diana Jenkins (Mike) of Jeffersonville, Indiana, Alan Jenkins of Jeffersonville, Indiana, Christopher Jenkins (Kathryn) of Georgetown, Kentucky, Karen Parker (Jeff) of Austin, Indiana; his grandchildren, Hayden Hughes (Marlee), Sophie Roush (Nick), Gabe Hughes, Katie Ice and Benjamin Ice; his step-grandchildren, Jason Jenkins (Carrie), Hannah Harkins (Chris), Kevin Parker, Katrina Parker, Carter Parker; his great-grandchildren, Annie and Graham Hughes, Charlie Roush; his step-great-grandchildren, Emma and Layne Jenkins, Ben Harkins; his sisters, Judy Sandman (Jack), Barbara Barrett, Donna O'Mara (Tim); and several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
