Patricia Redens Wrege, age 99, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025 in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born in New Albany, Indiana to Dr. Boone Redens and Hazel Redens on November 13, 1925. She was a graduate of New Albany High School and attended Indiana University, where she joined the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
On January 16, 1949, Pat married Robert B. (“Bob”) Wrege in New Albany, Indiana. Together, they had three sons and she flourished in her role as a homemaker.
Early in life, Pat worked as a model at Stewart’s Department Store in downtown Louisville. Later, she served as director and talent coach at the Kentucky State Fair beauty pageant held annually in Freedom Hall. Pat was a charter member of Hurstbourne Country Club and a member of the Women’s Club of Louisville and the Louisville Boat Club. She especially enjoyed boating with friends, including trips on the Kentucky River and elsewhere.
Later in life, Pat especially loved traveling the world with her husband and friends, including trips and cruises throughout many parts of Europe, China, Japan and South America. She also treasured her decades of participation as a member of the Highland Presbyterian Church choir. As “family historian,” Pat created detailed life story albums for each of her children and grandchildren, and annotated albums chronicling her numerous trips and cruises.
Most noteworthy about Pat was her considerate and selfless devotion to her family, her competitive spirit, her graceful good manners and her impeccable attire.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Rosemary Redens Schwartzel; her husband of 59 years, Bob; her son, Don; and her grandson, Clay. She is survived by her children, Rodger (Debbie), and Reed (Robbie); and nephews, Gerry Schwartzel and Boone Schwartzel. She was Grammy to Sarah Sehr (Daniel), Ann Ferebee (John, III), Susan Warren (Brandon), Michael Wrege (Emily) and Clay; and a Great Grammy to Franklin, Jack, Ryan, Lily, Robert, Stella and Molly.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Home of the Innocents,(homeoftheinnocents.com), to Highland Presbyterian Church (hpclouisville.com), or to the charity of your choice.
