Patricia Powell (née Block), born on December 12, 1936, departed from this world on August 10, 2025.
Patricia was the youngest child in a family of five, born to Raymond Block, a dedicated civil servant with the United States Postal Service, and Helen Ferguson Block, a devoted school teacher. From an early age, Patricia devoured books, especially those with the clever twists of suspense and mystery, revealing a sharp intellect and quick wit that were evident even in her youth. Patricia's love for classic cinema was something she shared with her children, nurturing their appreciation for the art of storytelling. Patricia's passion for theatre ignited in her youth and continued throughout her life, and that legacy still lives with her daughter to this day.
Patricia was predeceased by her beloved parents and siblings: Raymond (Ray) Block, Mary Ellen McCulloch, Kenneth (Kenny) Block, and Bettye Anne Sherrard.
She is survived by her children, Craig Layne and Helen Layne, who will always hold an enduring love for her in their hearts. She is also remembered by her granddaughter, Emma Layne (daughter of Craig); and her caring niece and nephews: Gayle Lockard, Chris Block (with his wife Starr), and Brian Sherrard.
While Patricia led a life with emotionally complicated and often strained relationships, Craig and Helen find solace in the hope and prayer that their mother has at last discovered the profound peace that so eluded her in life. May her spirit finally be at rest.
