Patricia Ann Kerns, a devoted mother, loving grandmother, loyal sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, in Elizabeth, Indiana, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family. Born on August 25, 1947, in Elizabeth, IN, Patricia touched the lives of those around her with unwavering dedication, compassion, and steadfast commitment to her family and community.

Patricia’s journey in life was marked by her genuine care for others and her pursuit of excellence in every endeavor. She graduated proudly from South-Central High School, demonstrating an early commitment to education and personal growth. Furthering her aspiration to serve others, she earned her associate degree in nursing from Sullivan University and obtained her cosmetology licenses, showcasing her versatile talents and drive to make a difference in multiple arenas.

Patricia began her professional career as a nurse, working diligently for many years and earning the trust and respect of colleagues and patients alike. Later, she channeled her creativity and people skills into a new path as a hairstylist, becoming a familiar and beloved presence in the local community. Her work not only enriched her own life but brought comfort, confidence, and joy to many who sat in her chair.

Her proudest accomplishment was always her family. Patricia was the matriarch, ensuring that her loved ones had what they needed, providing support, guidance, and unconditional love. She took immense pride in watching her family grow and thrive, cherishing every moment shared with them.

Patricia is survived by her children, Bobbi Hershey (James), Eric Baird (Jill), Wayne Kerns (Amanda), David Baird and Donna Kuntz; grandchildren Eric Hershey, Danica Hershey, Jace Plummer, Kaleigh Plummer, Charles, Chad" Baird, David Wayne Baird; brother, Ernie Sutherland. Her nurturing presence and steadfast love will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

In remembrance, Patricia is reunited with her beloved family members who preceded her in death: her mother Rose Padgett, her father Ernest Sutherland, her son Jerry Kerns, her daughter Melanie Baird, her brother "Bobby" Robert Sutherland, and her granddaughter Samantha Plummer.

A visitation will be held on August 25, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN 47150. A second visitation is scheduled for August 26, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, immediately followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM at the same location.
