Ovid "Bud" Chambers, 90, died peacefully with family by his side on Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Westminster Retirement Village.
He was born February 25, 1926, in New Castle, Indiana, to the late Ovid, Sr., and Marie Chambers. Bud graduated from New Castle High School (New Castle, Indiana) in 1944, where he was the drum major and senior class president. After graduation, Bud served his country in the US Navy until 1947. That same year he married his life-long love, Betty Browning, also from New Castle, and together they enjoyed 69 wonderful years of marriage. Bud attended Indiana University where he was a member of the famed IU Marching Hundred. He graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor's in Music Education. He served 35 years as a public school music teacher in New Albany, Indiana, and held the esteemed position of the high school Band Director for several decades. After retirement, Bud enjoyed ushering in Louisville, Kentucky, at The Center for the Arts for 20 years and Actors Theater for 10. Bud was a faithful member of Central Christian Church for over 70 years and served as the Choir Director for 15 years.
Bud was preceded in death by his sisters, Lela Mae Chambers and Norma Whitton. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Betty Chambers; his devoted daughters, Lynn Bleemel, Kay Chambers (Bruce McCann), Carol McKinney (George), and Ann Lucas (Gary); his grandchildren, Nikole Skaggs (Jason), Chad Neidiffer (Kinsey), Eric McKinney (Caseye), Danielle McKinney, Jordan Lucas, and Kellen Lucas; and his great-grandchildren, McKinsey Morgan, Josey Neidiffer, Molly Neidiffer, Aiden McKinney and Regan McKinney.
A Celebration of Life for Ovid "Bud" Chambers will be held on Sunday, April 24, at Central Christian Church (1315 East Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana). Visitation will start at 2:00 p.m., culminating with a memorial service from 4:30-5:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to benefit the New Albany High School Band Program (1020 Vincennes Street, New Albany, Indiana 47150, ATTN: Jonathan Esarey).
