Oscar "JR, Big O" Shipman, aged 79, of Louisville, Kentucky, peacefully departed this life on Friday, April 10, 2026. Born on June 8, 1946, in Evarts, Kentucky, to Oscar and Stella Shipman, he was a man of quiet strength and gentle spirit, deeply cherished by all who knew him.
Oscar was a devoted father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend, whose warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on his loved ones. A man who found simple joys in life, he delighted in watching classic westerns such as Gun Smoke and The Lone Ranger, as well as culinary shows, reflecting a life lived with humble pleasures and thoughtful care.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Stella Mae and Oscar Shipman, Sr., and his brothers Ken, Bill, Jim, James, and Delbert. He leaves behind a legacy carried forth by his loving family: his children Wayne Shipman, Stacy Brummett, Jason (Melissa) Shipman, and Nikki Cardwell; his stepchildren Carla (Ed) Rowe, Debbie Lynch, Amy (Jason) Minton and Mary Beth Bramer. Oscar’s spirit lives on in fifteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and his cherished furbaby, Chip, along with numerous extended family and friends who will forever hold his memory close.
A visitation to honor Oscar’s life will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions – Southwest Louisville Chapel, located at 10304 Dixie Highway. This will be followed by a memorial service beginning at 6:00 p.m.
