Orville McDonner, 92, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2019. Orville was a proud veteran of the United States Army who served during World War II. He always said that the Japanese surrendered because his ship was on the way there. He owned and operated New Albany Trailer Rentals and O'Kentucky Rentals and Welding and was a member of the American Rental Association. He became a member of Graceland Baptist Church while they were still meeting for services at the Army barracks in New Albany. Along with his wife, they helped the bus ministry purchase the church's first bus. Orville was a member of VFW Post 1693 in New Albany and a proud Kentucky Colonel. He was a Mason with the New Albany Masonic Lodge 39 in New Albany, the Hadi Shriner's Lodge in Evansville, and the Tri-County Shrine Club in Clarksville.
He was born on July 13, 1926, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Richard and Sudie (Evans) McDonner. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Wilma Bright McDonner; son-in-law, John Rogers; great-granddaughter, Rebecca Frazier; brothers, Charlie J. McDonner, Earl McDonner, Lewis McDonner, Leo McDonner and Raymond McDonner; and sisters, Ruth King, Nell Tungett, Luetta Williams, and Mary Rissler.
Orville is survived by his loving children, Barbara Rogers, Charles (Patricia) McDonner, Sr., Orvilla Yerdon (Linley, Sr.), and Orville Ray (Judy) McDonner; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2019, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Graveside Service and Military Honors will be at 12:00 p.m. on Friday at Evergreen Cemetery (4623 Preston Highway, Louisville, KY) in the Normandy Chapel.
