Orville Edward Barr, Jr., 91, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018. He was a faithful member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church and a volunteer for Hosparus of Southern Indiana for over 18 years. Orville was also a long-time supporter of Mount St. Francis. He was very active in religious studies at his church, as well as privately, where he had a passion for learning and teaching the word of Christ. Orville spent many hours tending to his garden and property where he grew flowers and produce. He found peace in spending time on the beaches of Florida, loved to golf, and enjoyed bowling.
He was born on December 17, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Orville E. Barr, Sr., and Edith (O'Bryan) Barr. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Mike Barr; and sisters, Mildred Herbst and Irene Hammer.
Orville is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Bernice (Schueler) Barr; children, Jim Barr, Patty Barr (Brad Beilly), Susan Warner (Dennis), Orville Barr III (Jackie), and Paul Barr (Debbie); daughter in-law, Angie Barr; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2018, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church Chapel (5719 St. Mary's Road, Floyds Knobs, Indiana 47119) with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
