Orval Ray Dunn, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished friend of his community, passed away on October 11, 2024 in New Albany, Indiana. Born on May 19, 1943, in Phoenix, Arizona, he filled his years with joy, laughter, country living, and a deep love for the Lord and those around him.
As former Pentecostal minister, Ray dedicated his life to serving others, sharing his faith and joy through music, playing the guitar, and singing. He was known for his passionate spirit and his ability to uplift everyone he encountered. A true jokester at heart, Ray's infectious happiness made him a friend to all, and he had a special talent for brightening even the dullest of days. Even through the toughest health struggles it was never in his spirit to give up, always encouraging and being a light to those around him.
A proud Air Force veteran, Ray served his country honorably in Turkey during the Vietnam War. His commitment to serving others extended beyond the military; he devoted many years as an umpire for Little League games, and as a strong supporter of Angels of Hope Cancer Support Group.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Deborah Dunn, who stood by his side through many adventures. He leaves behind his loving sisters, June Thomas and Joyce Pennington, his cherished children, Stacy (Doug) Rauh, Bryan Dunn, as well as his adored grandchildren, Sarah Rauh, Hannah Rauh, and Adam Rauh, along with Gary and Christina Schotter and their children, Brooklyn, Kaden, and Amberlyn. Each of them carries forward the legacy of love and joy that he imparted throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orval Anderson Dunn and Patricia Dunn, his sister, Carolyn Powell, and his first wife of 43 years, Susan Dunn. Their memories, along with his joyful spirit, will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
Ray Dunn will be remembered not only for his vibrant personality and love of people but also for the profound impact he had on his family and community. His legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering faith will forever be cherished.
