Ollie "Danny" Applegate

Ollie "Danny" Applegate, 88, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2022. He retired from the New Albany Fire Department after a career that spanned 37 years, where he had served as Chief.

He was born on January 4, 1934, in New Albany to Ward and Ester (Miller) Applegate. In addition to his parents, Ollie was preceded in death by his son, Larry Applegate; and granddaughter, Ayrica Amster.

Ollie is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lodema (Taylor) Applegate; children, Danny Applegate (Theresa), Vicky Applegate, and Rick Applegate (Pam); daughter-in-law, Julie Applegate; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2022, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Saturday after 9:00 a.m. His funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with entombment to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.

Contributions in Ollie's memory may be made to the Salvation Army (2300 Green Valley Road, New Albany, IN 47150) for their annual Angel Tree Program and meals for families around the holidays. The family would like to thank Amy, Tina, Pam, and Robin for the care they provided to Ollie over the last few months.
