Obie Samuel Garnett was born on February 24, 1931, to George and Beatrice Jordan Garnett who preced him in death, He also had seven siblings, George Jr., Pearlie, Cleo, Robert Lee, Albert, Thomas and Freddie, who preceded him in death.
Obie, attended the Louisville Public school system, Obie loved and accepted Christ at an early age at First Gethsemane Baptist Church. He was a faithful and loyal member serving on the security ministry. Obie later joined N Street Baptist Church where he sang during special occasions with the men's choir and was a member until his death. He was an Army veteran proudly serving our country in the Korean War. Obie was employed at Churchill Downs as a groomer, retiring after forty plus years. Obie shared a special love of the horses with his nephew Bobby. He was avid sports lover, which included being a Louisville Cardinal fan.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Cathy Shoulders, Randell Shoulders and Vonzello(Shawntavia) Garnett; 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, a loving sister who he cherished, Beatrice Lampkins; sister-in-laws, Willena Garnett and Theresa Garnett and a host of nieces and nephews. Obie was always happy and cheerful and loved his visits with his family and church members. His great-grandchildren and his great nephew, Julius("J") were a ray of sunshine and always put a smile on his face.
Visitation will be Friday, 27, 2015 at N Street Baptist Church (2914 South 6th Street, Louisville, KY) from 9am-11am with a celebration of Obie's life beginning at 11am.
Burial will be at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, Radcliff, KY with military honors.
