Norman Gene Pepper

August 10, 1941 — July 27, 2020

Norman Pepper, a local icon passed away on Monday, July 27, 2020. He was 78 years old. He was born on August 10, 1941 in Greensburg, Kentucky to Crawford and Lorraine (Adkins) Pepper.

Best known for Pepper Bait and Tackle shops and Pepper Tackle Distributors, "Pepper's" legacy spanned over 50 years beginning in the small mom and pop shop he and wife, Mary and their children operated in downtown Louisville. They also had a shop in New Albany, IN. The tackle distributorship was at one time considered one of the largest in the Southeast. He was also the sole proprietor of the Jefferson County Quail Farm, supplying Northern bobwhite quail to sportsmen and private clubs.

Pepper made local headlines when he decided to run for (but was not successful) the newly formed Metro Council's 14th District. Also, his notoriety increased as he fought for his BIG FISH. At the time, the city wanted him to take down is 30' fiberglass bass and catfish, the bass being mounted atop what had originally been a Ranch House sign. The fish survived.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife, Mary, and their two sons, Daniel and Mark, brother, Jerry Pepper, and sister, Sundie Smothers. He is survived by his daughter, Norma Pepper. Also surviving are his sisters, Sandy and Saundra, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his good friends, Mary & Bob Stevenson.

Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, August 2, 2020 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). His Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm on Monday, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel with his final resting place next to his wife to follow at Bethany Memorial Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.

The family requests that contributions in Norman's memory be made to the family.
