Norbert Frederick Koopman, aged 82, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed on Friday, June 27, 2025. Born on October 15, 1942, in New Albany, Indiana, Norbert was the son of Henry and Agnes (Smith) Koopman. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a dedicated member of the American Legion.
Norbert graduated from New Albany High School in 1960 and further pursued his education at Indiana University, where he laid the foundation for a career that spanned over three decades at Reynolds Metals in Louisville, Kentucky, from which he eventually retired.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Norbert was involved in the St. John Starlight community. He was a devoted husband to Mary Kathryn Koopman, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years filled with love and cherished memories.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Kathryn Koopman, as well as brothers Raymond, Lawrence, Bernard, and Edward Koopman. He is survived by his brother, Charles Koopman, sister-in-law, Shirley Koopman, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Norbert was also a caring godfather to Beth Ann Koopman, Mary Aileen (Tony) Kraha, Matt Schulten, and Theresa Taylor, who will remember him fondly.
A private funeral mass and burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, honoring Norbert's wishes. His legacy of love, dedication, and service continues to inspire all who were fortunate enough to share in his journey.
